Tim Drake attacked my inmate in Zero, and accordingly as my inmate was unarmed and in confinement, and the attack was forthcoming upon my arrival I have decided that he should spend a week in Zero immediately following the Joker's incarceration. His warden item will be turned over to a substitute of his choosing, which he will select and prepare for in the meantime.

No matter what the Joker's crimes, there is something that must be understood here. He is the equivalent to a gateway drug in terms of rage. Oh, you may certainly feel that he deserves whatever he has coming to him, but he's rewarded when you show him violence. You do exactly what it is that he wants most. Then the next one becomes a little easier. And the next. And the next. And then you don't stop to think about what you're doing before you destroy a man's life.

I know this because I've been there. I will be there. Planets crumbled and civilizations have died because I did the right thing. Someone was bad enough, and that made it fine for the next person that was almost as terrible, and the one not quite as horrible as him. So on. So forth. I will not advocate this.

[And now he begins to sound tired.] I'll make no excuses for the Joker's actions. He's a terrible man, and I can see how his redeemability might be a matter of speculation, but I ask for you people to have the good sense not to feed him. If he attacks you, yes! Defend yourself. That's how it's expected to work. If he's sitting there having a meal and spontaneously you're overcome with the desire to bowl him over a table and embed your fists in his face, all you create is a more satisfied monster. You're feeding the parasite. And you give him an excuse to create more carnage.

Of course I could leave him dead. But who is to say the Admiral won't bestow upon us an even more unstable version. I could hold his memories behind a mental grip, force him to live a life as someone fresh. But wouldn't that be easy? And again, easier still to do to the next inmate. And the next. And the next. We really would be tools of the Barge then, wouldn't we?

The Joker's punishments, outside of delivery to Zero, are to be left to me. I am his warden. I understand his intentions best. And I am forced to reprimand a good friend for the sake of tainted soul. I'll see this infection spread no further from either side. Anyone else who acts in retribution rather than defence against the Joker without consulting me will have to answer to me in kind.

Yeah, OK. Let's disagree.
championoftime: 7 - 7[personal profile] championoftime on December 9th, 2010 02:44 am (UTC)
Unfortunately I must firmly stand my ground on this. I'm no longer allowing anyone to pander to his desperate and childish cries for attention. Just because someone broke him doesn't mean I have to watch him do it to everyone else.

It's that pacifist streak in you I'm worried about. Sometimes, pre-emption's got its own rewards.
championoftime: 7 - bfg[personal profile] championoftime on December 9th, 2010 02:20 pm (UTC)
Then at the very least be assured I've no intention of pandering to him, even if you agree with little else.

Why do you know what the right thing is? Bad and horrible and irredeemable. They’re just words made up to make people feel better then each other. You all feel the more rules you have and follow the better you are.

None of you can accept who or what you are on your own, you have to grasp guidelines and fall into order. The clown is terrible because he acts on what makes him happy, the other boy reprimanded for acting on his anger. But that isn’t the order, no, you mustn’t act on your natural instincts, that makes you ‘wrong’. As defined by holier then thou men crowded around a fire speaking about gods and hell.

No, we shouldn’t be locked up, we should get to die however we please and find whatever is waiting for us on our own terms. Not forced to ‘redeem’ to the mould that we refused to be cast into in life.

[Oh a completely separate note, I totally have a one armed Seven action figure right here]
championoftime: 7 - crystal ball[personal profile] championoftime on December 9th, 2010 02:58 am (UTC)
I am glad both mine have their arms.
The clown is terrible because acting on what makes him happy has the added affect of making many others miserable and perhaps depriving them of their lives. More people need to learn how to be cope with being sad, rather than suffer a psychotic desperation for joy. Especially when it compromises the satisfaction of everyone else.

D: I was young! All my toys lost their arms!
But we cant die here. Its perfect.

You say that as if it's something that might not be taken away at the Admiral's discretion.

Well it wouldnt be a thrill if he couldnt

He should have known better.

I'm sorry you've been saddled with that sack of shit.

He let his emotions get the better of him. Hopefully he will know better in the future.

I've dealt with the Master long enough. I wouldn't trade him off on another warden, even if he's as disheartening as stuffing a Davros in a tube dress.
[identity profile] terminates.livejournal.com on December 9th, 2010 03:52 am (UTC)
Maybe.

A Davros?

Bald megalomaniacal scientist with delusions of genetically purifying the universe with his own mutated DNA. Not precisely the Barge's next top model.

When he attacked you, I didn't notice anything but had he managed to get his hands on any weapons? I've been doing checks but he's went after me with so much as a pencil before.

Sounds like a special snowflake.

He swiped a fork from the dining hall and was skipping down the hallway when he ran into me. When I saw it and commented on it, he went for me.

Re: [Private]
Very much so. His planet was the one I destroyed. It still didn't stop his vermin.

He does enjoy his skipping. [Why can't he just stroll like a sensible person? No harm in strolling.] I'll make doubly sure to check him after meals then.

One of those "for the greater good" things that didn't turn out so well?

I'm not surprised. [Sensible? The Joker? Perish the thought.] He's not as "mad" as he lets people believe.

I delayed them from gaining time travel, only to have them strike harder upon my homeworld apparently. After my time, but judging from the melancholy of my older self it didn't go so well.

I don't believe he is either. I think he knows exactly what he wants.

Your world sounds about as messed up as mine.

[Or more, but he couldn't really say without getting the full story.]

I get the sense that his world is farther behind in the timeline than others like it. He's been doing the runaround with Batman for years where I'm from; nothing really comes of it.
championoftime: 7 - fidgety[personal profile] championoftime on December 10th, 2010 04:16 am (UTC)
Re: [Private]
Probably. I tend to understand from it. Or at least variations upon them.

He likes the attention Batman gives him. At least that's the inclination of this one. It's likely the only person he has left to truly attach himself to.

At least my expectations aren't particularly high.

Have a devil for Seven's shoulder
If you don't have the stomach to wipe his mind, delegate it to someone else. Separate the judge from the enforcer if you're concerned that one person acting alone in anger or self-righteousness might fall down that slippery slope.

You can't deny that everyone on the Barge would be safer for it, and that more people will suffer if you don't.

I've never spoken to Shego, nor has the Joker ever harmed me personally, so you can be assured that I say this out a concern for the stability of the ship as a whole and not irrational feelings of vengeance and rage.
championoftime: 7 - grumble[personal profile] championoftime on December 9th, 2010 03:50 am (UTC)
OMG DEVIL DON'T TEMPT TO DO BAD THINGS! i really really want to tho
Even if not in retaliation, it's too simple a fix. Repressed memories can be triggered for remergence, or the core issue can remain. [But he knows it almost worked for the Master. Had Death not interfered, he was so close to having his friend back.]

More people will end up suffering if I do. I don't want to lead by example in this case.

[Uncertainty. It is there.]

[Private]

...Not until I'm positive there's no other way.
Narvinektralonum: smirk[personal profile] timesbureaucrat on December 9th, 2010 04:08 am (UTC)
[Private] *tempt tempt*
Did I say repress?

I have a mindwipe. The memories can be burned out.

You wouldn't be leading by example, if only because so very few wardens could emulate what you and I can do.

And that slope is only as slippery as you let it be. I've mindwiped criminals before and you don't see me burning out the memories of all the inmates, do you? Not even my own inmate.

[He'll not mention the list of inmates he would kill or mindwipe given an excuse, and he certainly won't mention that he used the mindwipe on his last inmate.]

It is, of course, your choice.

Let me know if you change your mind.
championoftime: 7 - let's not be hasty[personal profile] championoftime on December 9th, 2010 04:28 am (UTC)
[Private] Oh you're a naughty, naughty devil.
[AH! He has a mindwipe!?!] That is true, but I generally offer my services to other wardens if they're required. Barge amnesia that lingers for a prolonged period of time and the like. They might start inquiring similar effects from the Admiral for their inmates. ...But it is something that I warned that I am capable of doing.

...At least one human I've been acquainted with had the mental fortitude to recover from a mindwipe. She might have had particular ways of recalling details or her memories were separately established, but-

I will keep it in mind. [It's certainly likely that he could have used a mindwipe. Strange mixed feelings of horror and intrigue go here.]

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com on December 9th, 2010 12:34 pm (UTC)
Tim Drake is obviously a murderous psychopath. That said, if you ever need assistance with the Joker I'd be more than happy to help.
championoftime: 7 - so very worried[personal profile] championoftime on December 9th, 2010 02:22 pm (UTC)
Hardly. He's simply smitten, which approximates similar amounts of wreckless behaviour. But it was very inappropriate.

Do you know much about him from Gotham?
[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com on December 10th, 2010 09:42 am (UTC)
Smitten? How is that relevant? [Oh, Crane. Missing half the story.]

Nothing more than an ordinary Gotham citizen with a Phd who reads the papers.
championoftime: 7 - determination[personal profile] championoftime on December 10th, 2010 10:00 am (UTC)
Let's just say that his judgement was reasonably skewed at the time by pertinent information that was withheld. As is yours, unfortunately. But it's information I'm not at liberty to give.

That's approximately the same amount of information I was gifted with when I overtook the role as the Joker's warden.
[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com on December 10th, 2010 10:13 am (UTC)
Why not? Are you scared of him? I couldn't blame you, after seeing the Joker's face like that.

Now, that would be a difficult job. Almost puts the workload of other wardens to shame, doesn't it?
championoftime: 7 - tietug[personal profile] championoftime on December 10th, 2010 10:33 am (UTC)
Absolutely not. He's been a friend. He's simply unsettled at the moment. It's no excuse though, and everyone needs to be held accountable for their actions.

Eh. [Non-commital shrug in his tone.] It could be worse. I could be burdened with entertaining the Gods of Ragnarok again.
[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com on December 10th, 2010 10:42 am (UTC)
It must be nice to know that your friend would beat you if you managed to frustrate him enough. [Sorry, Doctor. Crane's actually a little bit offended by what Tim did, mainly because he's not had much experience with wardens doing that sort of thing.]

The Gods of Ragnarok. [Said in a complete dead pan.] Do I even want to know if you meant that seriously?
championoftime: 7 - deep in thought 2[personal profile] championoftime on December 10th, 2010 10:45 am (UTC)
I was the one who pulled him off the Joker. I saw what happened there and I was not impressed by it.

Yes. I did. No. They're not the legendary ones. Think of a group of stony Admirals that demand entertainment all the time and make worlds for their amusement.
[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com on December 10th, 2010 01:31 pm (UTC)
Yet he's still your friend. How touching. I assume that you might benefit from that in some way?

[Pause.] How horrifying. It wouldn't surprise me, though. It seems unlikely that the Admiral is a lone being. It's far more likely that he's part of his own race.
championoftime: 7 - disbelief[personal profile] championoftime on December 10th, 2010 01:34 pm (UTC)
You don't abandon a friend for a mistake. Most of my associates here are inmates as it is. I've yet to abandon them for theirs.

I don't doubt it.
[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com on December 10th, 2010 01:40 pm (UTC)
Most wardens don't bother to interact with inmates. They don't seem to want to waste their time on us.

Then could another Admiral potentially send us back to our own worlds?
