[The Doctor is in his room with a lot of potted plants, all the same species of that particular leafy green shape, sitting about on the floor. They're in wildly differing sorts of pots, and they used to be in various places aboard the Barge. It was like an easter egg hunt!]

I happened to be looking around and found these lovely specimens growing aboard the barge. It looks to be vaguely related to the morning glory? A turbina corymbosa. I doubt the garden would want them as they have hallucinogenic properties, however I'm sure someone grew them for some reason. [He smiles at the camera as he picks one up and puts it on the table more closely.]

I do want the poor dears well taken care of, so if they're yours you may feel free to say so. If not, I am certain the lovely Persephone will advise me on their proper maintenance. I can't leave them in the garden, however, that would be irresponsible of me.

[Warden Filter]

I am curious, does anyone know if the status of their inmates has changed from their originating files? Many of them have been through much since arriving and I'm not certain all of them can be redeemed in the same manner that they used to be. People change and I am terribly concerned many of them have changed for the more destructive.

[OOC: The Doctor has just Batmaned up all of Crane's fear gas crop, with permission.]

[You had him at hallucinogenic.]

They were growing in the garden?

They were a little bit of everywhere, actually. Only a few were in the gardens, but he had to leave them various places to maintain them once his work there had been terminated.

I shouldn't be surprised.

...Thanks for gathering them, Doctor.

With this talk of hatred and potential violence, it seemed imperative.

I won't be pointing him out openly, though. Planning is one thing, but he shouldn't be punished for something he hadn't done. Plans can always be altered near the end.

I suppose. Even i f they're unlikely to be. I'll keep an eye on him. He'll try again.

[There are no words to describe Crane's displeasure at this turn of events. He's kind of accepted that everyone will know it's him.] All of them, you say. How many is that, specifically? [Feel free to make up a number. It'll be right. :3]

In the neighborhood of seventeen.

Of course, though, it wouldn't have been yours. It's far too obvious and would cost you time in the lab. Being a scientist, that's too much of a rarity to risk. [He eyebrows a bit.] So, as far as I'm concerned and to anyone who asks, you're innocent until proven guilty.

Seventeen. An interesting number. I thought there would be more. [Crane's lying like a boss.]

Yes, of course. Might you, I don't see much point in arguing my case. If I were innocent, none of the other wardens will believe it.

If there are, then kudos to you.

[He tries very hard to read his intentions as he asks a question.] So, you do still consider yourself a scientist. This isn't necessarily just for the purpose of mental manipulation, is it? You want to learn something from it.

Thank you. Hypothetically. [Fake smugness, it is here.]

It could be both. I also like how you too have assumed my guilt. I'm touched, really.

[He makes a pondering noise.] You've caught me, but there's a difference between assumption and psychic ability that makes intent impossible to disguise.

Psychic. [Why, if it isn't one of Crane's least favorite things that turn up on the barge.] Well, that's fantastic. Tell me, do you ever feel like this ability has the potential to violate others?

Only if I were to actually read minds, which I need physical contact for and prefer not to do because the human mind... [Yech, he shudders that thought off. Ew.]. Otherwise it's not more than a wisely schooled human profiler can accomplish.

Nevertheless, the question is genuine. Do you consider yourself a scientist?
[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com on October 23rd, 2010 01:41 pm (UTC)

[Crane's new goal is to never touch him. Ever.] A profiler. Interesting.

[Pause at this, but he addresses the question.] Of course I do. I undertake scientific chemical research, therefore I am a scientist.

[Mental grabby haaaands.] So, do you believe that this plant's properties could be used to create responses other than fear?
[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com on October 24th, 2010 11:28 am (UTC)

They're uses are hardly only limited to creating fear. [Crane pauses.] Hypothetically, of course.

Hypothetically, of course. [He purses his mouth up thoughtfully as if he's trying to think of something.] But it would render similar effects in the way of hallucination?

I don't know. [Crane hates admitting that.] I'd like to find out, but I'm under the impression that it would be unethical. [Sigh.]

championoftime: 7 - displeased[personal profile] championoftime on October 25th, 2010 09:58 am (UTC)

I have a mountain range in my TARDIS. Simulated results would be extremely accurate. And if you can find a willing volunteer, then some minor experimentation might be feasibly endorsed.

Isn't there any way I'd be able to test the native subjects?
championoftime: 7 - what am I doing here?[personal profile] championoftime on October 25th, 2010 10:07 am (UTC)
[Private]
Let's remove ethics from the situation and look at the idea tactically. The native subjects here might kill someone, and that victim would return. It would be even more obvious than my post what the causes were because of residue found in the bloodstream. You would find yourself in Zero, and quite possibly, probably, and I would dare to say inevitably never be permitted near any lab again.

But the TARDIS can produce organic components, and this includes a somewhat accurate simulation of a human brain. It is an offer to take or leave.
[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com on October 26th, 2010 10:18 am (UTC)
[Private]
[Crane is so surprised that he's been allowed near the lab in the first place.] All compelling reasons, yes. [Not that its stopped him in the past.]

These organic components. How accurate is 'somewhat' accurate?
championoftime: 7 - brooding oncoming storm[personal profile] championoftime on October 26th, 2010 10:38 am (UTC)

It can't create a human body, but it can create a simulated mind capable of emulating the reactions and place those reactions in a viewable first person format. "Somewhat" being the difference between second person and first person observation.

Actually, given recent events, I actually have realised that as soon as I got my file, it was woefully out of date. Only because she'd been here for about three, four wardens before me, and a lot of things had changed already.

Both postive and negative.

I had thought it was a statement based on the unreality of the barge.

I must have gotten caught up with the ever present metaphors the local populace keeps springing up.
