I hope you've considered who you might visit first. I would personally recommend your brother.

Because now you're in a position to act on it.

[Private to Friends | Audio]

[Timed to later.]

I would prefer you keep it to yourselves, but it seems that finally my efforts have yielded some success. Mr. Pinkman has graduated. [And there's an element of disbelief there, too. A whole weight is lifting off of him.]

And very soon, I will be leaving.

[Private to Dr. McCoy | Audio]

I need to have a frank discussion with you, when you are in the mood and have the time.

Yeah, of course. Always. You, too, okay? I'll miss your quirkiness. And that hat! [Giggles.]

You rock, like, hardcore, so don't forget it.

[Giving up on that would mean he was used to getting hugged in the first place, and while the Barge has been kinder to him on that front than his old life, it's still not something he exactly plans for. But the truth is, he's so close to overwhelmed that he probably would have done it himself in another second, and he doesn't protest now, no matter how lame or gay or stupid it is.

He squeezes his eyes shut and puts his arms tight around the Doctor, taking a few beats to let himself
be overwhelmed with the reality of things: that here, finally, is someone who believed in him, who got him here, and it's the last time they'll see each other.]

Believe me, I'm the last person to try to convince you to stay. This place isn't good for any of us, long term.
batmanschmatman: (Woobie face.)

[Dick... honestly isn't sure if he has that in him anymore. Or right now, at least. It wasn't that he didn't trust people or couldn't give them the benefit of the doubt, but when he trusted people, things like that security breach with Ariadne happened, or the person you tried giving a second chance screwed it up and poisoned you.

He liked to think of himself as an optimist, and he still was, sometimes. Most of the time. But this place kind of seemed like it just wanted to beat that out of him once and for all, and he wasn't sure he could just say no worries, not a problem, everything's going to be fine. And he kind of hates that someone needs to tell him to be more optimistic now.

So he found himself settling for the next best thing.]

I'll try. [He means it, too, and it's not just trying to brush the situation off like it wasn't a big deal.]

And... thanks. For everything.

What, there's parting gifts, too? No one told me about that.

[He follows, but his smile fades thoughtfully -- there's been something on his mind for a while, and as much as he wanted to see his now-ex-warden before he left, that's not the only reason for his visit.] So, what... happens now? Exactly? I just tell him when I'm ready and I wake up in my car?

Wherever. What about whenever?

[But he's distracted for a moment by the tools, brightening up.] Whoa. Sweet. [It's not like he really knows the difference, not yet, between what's good or what's bad, or even what some of them are, but he's pretty sure he can safely assume this is capital-G Good Shit. He's already opening the box, taking them out, poring over them.] Shit, yo-- there's like, eight kinds of wrenches in here. [This is a good thing, apparently.]

[He sits down with the toolbox, and he's going to keep playing with everything as he talks, because-- well, because Jesse, and chronically incapable of keeping his hands to himself. But he's pulled back to the issue by the Doctor's explanation, sobering up a little.]

What about a little while before I, um-- before the end? What about 20 minutes or so?

[He was so dazed after the gun went off that he doesn't have any idea how long he sat in that car, not really. But he remembers Mr. White's voice on the phone: "You'll have about a twenty minute lead."

Remembering the words after that -- "they're going to kill me" -- he amends.]

Maybe an hour?

I'm sure your memory will spring to mind every time I meet a reckless meddler. [He'll miss you, Doctor.

He looks away from the screen, taps his fingers. Goodbyes are hard and he's still not used to them.]

[He is -- he so very is. But more than that, in this moment, he's daunted by the one very big choice that remains. He addresses the tools, brow creasing.]

This place... this is supposed to be about second chances, right? About doing better. And I just thought... you know, it was only twenty minutes before Victor caught up with me that I killed Gale. [He still hesitates over the word, over the name, but less than he used to. He did it. It's like the Doctor said: it's time for accountability.]

So if the whole point of this is to want to change, he'd have to let me change that, right? If I asked? Make it so I never did it?

I know. I thought of that.

[And now he really looks agonized, because this is what makes it such a difficult choice.]

If I don't kill him, Gus is gonna kill Mr. White. I know that, that's the whole reason I had to do it in the first place. Unless... I get Mr. White out of the way first.

[He puts down the hammer he's holding and links his hands behind his head, staring at the ground.]

I'd have to call the cops on him. DEA. His brother-in-law.

[Narvin scoffs. His inferiority complex is easily irritated.]

Hardly the best. Had you joined willingly, we might have been able to make something of you. But as it was you were undisciplined, uncontrollable, and incapable of following orders.
