Where would the safest place be for him?

[He knows Jesse knows. But he also knows Jesse has to think about it.]

You know, I trusted you on Risa to be responsible for yourself and others. I do as well in this case. I believe you'll make the proper move once you've considered it.

[He glances up at the Doctor at that.]

We're meth cooks, man. Nothing's safe, not a hundred percent.

But... if he makes a deal, gets some of that witness protection for the family, maybe...

Maybe. [Mildly, though he knows that's the best choice.] I believe that you would be making the right decision.

[He sighs, sitting back, rubbing his face.] But it's... it'll kill him, Doc. It'll just kill him, his brother finding out like that. And he's my partner. Was my partner. [Is still, in a way, even if he's out of it.] It's a hard call to make.

Are you going to talk to his family? [He dangles his legs off the console as the mongoose comes crawling out from behind something to also nose at Jesse's toolbox.]

[He shakes his head, absently reaching out to pet the mongoose.] They don't know me. They wouldn't get it.

And I know you're not gonna like it, but not my family, either. Just my lawyer, that's the only guy I'm talking to. He's gonna set some things up for me, check in on some folk for me, and that's it. Then I'm out.

I know you'll take them into consideration, though.

[The mongoose stands up on its back legs and does a rolly polly wrestle with his hands.]

[He can't help but grin again at that -- he's only got maybe the world's biggest soft spot for animals, after all. He prods its belly, fighting back.]

Getting a taco and then getting the fuck out of New Mexico, that's for sure.

And actually, me and Claire are gonna go to Disneyland, once we figure out where to stash the dogs for a week.

[It squeaks with enthusiasm and bounces from his hand to try and pull at the hem of his pants leg.]

Find a way for the Admiral to send me a post-card. I'm sure I'll get it. [And Jesse gets a nosebeep, because dammit he needs one at least once.]

[Doctor, he has limits, and things that are cute from the mongoose are not cute from an old-- English? Irish? whatever you are? dude.]

...For the sake of my sanity and, like, having a good memory of today, I'm gonna pretend that didn't just happen. I'll figure the postcard thing out.

[And he's going to pick up the mongoose so he can USE IT LIKE A SHIELD if need be. ~~Also because it is cute.~~]

You know, you did help with that. With him. Someone graduated, and has the freedom to return home because you supported someone else. Someone else graduated recently, because you gave your friend strength.

You do make lives better, Dick. Don't forget that.

[Tim has never been good about keeping in contact with people, he's lost contact with some of his best friends once they aren't in close quarters. It's not that he's forgetful or absent minded, it's that he has a tough time really being separated from people. Loss is a constant for him, so even if it doesn't have to be permanent, he has a way of making it so.

So this is kind of bittersweet, and he takes his time in responding.]

Congratulations, Doc. Hope you don't mind if I keep the key.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

[He sounds very fond. He is going to miss Tim, and all those times he's been a human with a family. They weren't so bad, like most people complain about.]

For all the trouble this place has given me, people like you make me realize I would do it over again. I wouldn't have traded it, not if it meant never having met you.
