[Filtered to Sgt. Howie and Coordinator Narvin]

I have a bit of a dilemma. [He sounds very concerned.] The... entity, person, alien, being, he, she, it... whatever it was. It altered memories of some to acquire followers. It impressed terrible thoughts in at least one individual's mind to gain their obedience.

This individual has come to me to have these false memories removed. No, this isn't a situation like a flood, or a breach. These are terrible thoughts concerning damaging children that have been thrust into their past experiences. I can repress the memories, but there will be the risk of residual feelings.

The person is a warden, and in full control of their judgement. They're also deeply affected, embarrassed, and wish to remain anonymous. They're also fully aware that it's a painful procedure, and I'm certain it's worth the risk. So temporarily I request use of the mindwipe, from the both of you. I would return it in short order.

[Private to Jim Profit]

[Backdated to pairing day.] Mr. Profit, I believe we're due a conversation. Where would you prefer we meet?

I'll bring biscuits and be there in a mo'.

[Your new warden is a little insane, Jim. In any case, he's there in ten minutes, as he promised with both a bit of Jim's file and a tin of biscuits.]

Hello! [Cheerily at Jim's door. Followed by a little light knock.]

Doctor, Hello!

[Jim steps up to hold the door open for the Doctor to step through, his eyes automatically scan down to the file. It really is just a bit of his file. Last time he'd seen it? When he'd done away with the entire thing? He'd seen the size of it's contents, and he was fairly sure there'd been more of it than that. His eyes flick back up to the Doctor, and he smiles warmly.]

Please, come in. Can I get you something to drink?

[He shoves the tin into Jim's hands as soon as he's before him, and he heads in to have a seat.] Please! What do you have?

[He settles down in a chair, slouching and propping his feet up as he starts reading the contents of that little bit. And not just read it, oh no. His eyes flick in an inhuman manner over the contents, absorbing the content at a rate that would make some computer's blush and a scanner ashamed. He was flicking through pages quickly.] Oh, you're quite the ladies man, aren't you? Perhaps I should have asked for some pointers last week.

[Jim accepts the tin, and moves to set it down on the coffee table in the room.] Green tea, coffee, wine, fruit juice? I might have some Evian water in the fridge as well...

[Jim has already turned into the kitchen, when the Doctor first comments on the content of his file. He froze for a moment, before turning smoothly, to glance back towards his new warden.] That's not untrue, I suppose, but it's not how I ever really thought of myself. I don't know that I'm exactly a font of reliable dating advice.

[Stay casual. Stay polite. Don't address your crimes unless he forces you to address your crimes.]

Ooh, green tea. [He lays the file against his chest.] Oh well, it's over and done with now. I attempt to refrain from romance myself. [He rolls the "r" dramatically, and his eyes with it.] There's nothing quite so destructive as a broken heart and a bitter head, and the quickest way to accomplish both is through profession of emotions that stand a risk of being stripped away. Defeats the purpose of trying to help others when I might be aiding to the creation of a ticking time bomb tenuously down down down to unbridled resentment.

[And... back up the papers go, though he's already read them. Now he's just pretending to be engrossed again to give Jim time to go do whatever or say what he likes.]

[Spam] He just wants to impress you, Doctor ccc:
[Jim sets about making two cups of green tea for them, listening to the Doctor ramble on. Finishing the process quickly, he moves to bring out the two cups.] Well, surely that risk depends on who you're pursuing a relationship with. I don't think I've ever had anyone quite so devoted to me as to have taken that particular spiral.

[He passes behind the Doctor, very casually trying to catch a glimpse over the other man's shoulder, trying to figure out exactly what part of his life was prompting this discussion, before stepping around him to set the tea down on the coffee table.]

But perhaps you and I attract women of different calibers.

[He hands up the bit of file for Jim to look at, which is basically his history at Glacen and Glacen] Oh, I don't know. From that it seems like they become quite enthralled with you. [He raises a brow.] Are you capable of returning their affection? Or is that sort of relationship something of a mystery, still?
Jim Profit: smile[personal profile] raisedinabox on May 7th, 2011 01:50 pm (UTC)
[Spam] Grarrr, I'm sorry, I thought I'd replied to this!
[Jim accepts the piece of his file, as he considers the question. He suspected he'd returned Kelly's feelings, to a degree. Certainly, finding what he'd thought was a kindred spirit had been enticing, but essentially what she'd wanted? The roller coaster of sex and danger that she'd found thrilling? Had just been acts of business to him. Still, no reason not to lie.] Obviously it's impossible to fully understand how another person feels for you, but... I adored Nora Gracen. I know that we couldn't have pursued anything, but that doesn't mean that I didn't care for her very much.

She was married to my boss, and to my friend.

I believe that she still loved him. He just... at that time, he wasn't able to give her everything she wanted from life.
