[Someone has his rotary "r"s back, and someone has every intention of using them. Especially as he woke up in a mood.] I'm currently aching in organs that I don't even possess. [Long pause because he's pulling himself together.] I require some assistance in getting to the infirmary. I'm now death-tolling as a result of lead poisoning, administered in a lethal dose out of six-shooter.

[He would really like for people to stop shooting him. Really.]

...And Braxiatel, I would appreciate a game of chess. [From the real brother, that won't shoot him... no matter how tempting it might be sometimes.]

[And sent later.]

[Private to Jim]

I want you to come see me in the infirmary too. Bring a deck of cards or something.

[Private to Eddie]

I need to speak with you. I've learned a very poignant lesson in holding things in for too long.

[He glances at the Doctor's torso, where his arms had shifted to cover the places that Narvin had vivid memories of being stained with blood. He falters for a fraction of a second before putting on a haughty expression and raising an eyebrow.]

I was already aware that killing them is generally frowned upon. I didn't need a useless breach to teach me that.

And I was mortified of you, Narvin. I know that you shouldn't feel that way about your kin. [He rubs his chest, near a heart that doesn't exist. Why is he hurting in a heart he doesn't have?!

He points to Narvin.] But you can remember that they loved one another at one time, can't you? They learned a good deal from their parents. Them playing pretend with each other as children?

I remember, but they aren't my memories. They're more like thoughts that I stole from a human mind. Real enough in their context, but completely separate from me. [And Narvin is trying very hard to keep it separate, to mentally distance himself from that person and those events, to partition it away under "Other People's Thoughts" the way he would to keep himself separate from another during psychic entrelacement. It keeps spilling over, though, because it was his body and his brain and his finger that pulled the trigger.]

That's why I said "them". [He cocks his head at him.] It's a unique insight that we have few times to experience, Narvin. Terrible as it ended, don't disregard the good parts.

Have you talked to your companion?

It's an insight I'd rather not have. The "good parts" as you call them are decades-old, faint, wispy, half-imagined, half-forgotten things. That cannot in any way balance out your very real blood on my hands.

[He breathed out a puff of air. He hadn't meant to get so worked up over it. When he speaks again, it's in a calmer voice.]

No, I haven't had an opportunity yet. [Because he had to make sure the Doctor was alive and see it for himself to verify, to try to put that guilt to rest. But he's never going to admit that.]

[Spam] AHAH caught you sneaky word doubles.
[He's surprised by the sudden outburst, but... supposes he ought to tell him.]

He was afraid for his brother when he was pointing the gun at him. And when he shot him, he wanted him to be there for him in his final moments because he was afraid of what was coming. As angry as he was in those final months, he still wanted him with him during his final moments.

[He takes off his hat.] ...Was this because we're both comparably short? It must have been.

Well, that makes the betrayal ever so much better. [It's the betrayal more than the killing itself that bothered him. If the Barge had, for some mad reason, taken it upon itself to make the murdering outlaw Rogers his brother, and in a relationship where it was known clearly by both parties that there was no love there, he'd have felt no guilt at all about putting extra holes in Rogers' body, shared genetics or not. But he can't abide betrayal.

And here he is making the situation...perhaps not worse, but certainly no better with his snappish responses. The Doctor had been shot. He should probably make the attempt to say something nice.]

He cried afterwards, for hours, on and off, until O'Brien showed up and reminded him that he'd be hanged if he stayed.

[He pauses. Even if James isn't him, it's still an uncomfortable confession to make for a traditionalist member of a race that values repression.]

I imagine so. That and the fact we're both devious schemers. Sylveste's manipulative trick was clever, even if the results weren't what he wanted.

Re: [Spam]
[He chuckled almost warmly. But then winced and hugged himself again.] Oh, it was a good one. I could have told him his brother was too far gone for it to work, but it was a good one. And if it made his brother a better man, they were exactly what he wanted.

[He waves Narvin away.] Go find your human. He's probably grumpily brooding somewhere. [As if he never did any grumpy brooding.]

[Narvin frowned in bafflement. The idea of that kind of sacrifice to make just one person better was impractical and incomprehensible to him. It's something for him to puzzle over further later. He steps back when the Doctor waves him away.]

Just because he's not in love with his own voice, unlike other persons of my acquaintance [he looks pointedly at the Doctor], it doesn't mean that he broods.

But I should go and make sure he's all right. And clean shaven.

I'm a Time Lord! Of course I like talking. And he does so brood. ...Go attack his face. Make sure the hair hasn't gotten to it. [Annoying Narvin a little is a good way to make him feel less guilty. He actually doesn't want him to feel bad for what he can't help, but he thinks he shouldn't pass up the opportunity to know more about humans if he's going to be one.]

And thank you for telling me, by the way, that the Mayor didn't enjoy what he'd done.
