[He appears on the screen, holding a squirmy mongoose. That terrible jester marionette of his? Still sitting on the back of his couch. He's hesitant because he knows what's been going on, and there's some potentially terrible things that he could be admitting about himself right now. So he's going to try really hard not to!] Harper! This is actually your pet. I'm duty bound to return it to you... I have no idea what it's name is.

[And a pause. Okay! Let's go with-] I know how to play the spoons!

[Really?

That's it?

He sighs in relief.] I was worried for a moment that I was going to say something considerably worse! [He ignores the mongoose considering a voyage down his pullover.] Such as the fact I know I'm the most problematic, repugnant, and unpleasant of the lot of me and I'd been better off not even having gone through this regeneration.

[Wait.] Ignore that bit. [He makes a pissy huff and cuts the feed.]

I'm not certain yet. [He is certain. Mostly certain. Hush, Valeyard, you're not a part of this conversation.] However, as fact stands you've been a better friend to me- if not my elder selves, so I thought I would come to you.

...Also, you've been active more recently than in the past century.

...Unless you have a platonic relationship with the agent. Are you? [His turn to be repressed and unsure. Platonic is what one usually does with companions...]

Lord Rassilon can be manipulative. But I'm sure you know that. He is, after all, a Time Lord and a politician.

[Another long pause.]

For my part, although he is my president I wouldn't trust him enough to let my guard down to such an extent. Maybe I would have before... [Not just maybe. During the early days of Rassilon's presidency, when he was still star-struck, if Rassilon had wanted him he would have considered himself honoured.]

I'm loyal to him, and I'll obey orders. That doesn't mean I've forgotten what he's done. Accede to his desires if you wish, but don't think he won't turn on you if you become inconvenient.

[That's relieving to hear, because he knows now that he won't have to go running to Rassilon's chamber to make sure he gets there before Narvin.] Then I'll proceed with whatever decision with caution.

And how about this for another admission. Perhaps another reason I doubt myself.

I abhor being in charge... But I think this time around, I could have been good at it.
