It should work immediately. Wardens might want to notify their inmates if they're experiencing trouble breathing to rush to the infirmary. Not that they shouldn't anyway, but some inmates tend to be stubborn.

Would you have allowed me to do you the favour then? The slap on the wrist that I could have delivered him would have been extremely terrifying, and a firm reminder not to deal with forces beyond his control. Though without the necessity of murder.

I doubt his warden agreed with his behavior. He sounded extremely upset by it when I spoke with him. [He also had a worse headache then, too, so he says that with a note of, "Oh the agony."]
