All that would have happened was that I would have appeared weak and he would have received a slap on the wrist as it were.

Would you have allowed me to do you the favour then? The slap on the wrist that I could have delivered him would have been extremely terrifying, and a firm reminder not to deal with forces beyond his control. Though without the necessity of murder.

I doubt his warden agreed with his behavior. He sounded extremely upset by it when I spoke with him. [He also had a worse headache then, too, so he says that with a note of, "Oh the agony."]
